News Release

WEST CARROLLTON, Ohio – The West Carrollton police department is starting a new database aimed at quickly locating guardians when a child or adult with a disability is lost.

The city’s new "Take Me Home" program uses SmartCop software and is modeled after a program created by Officer Jimmie Donohoe of the Pensacola, Florida, police department.

Parents and guardians can pick up the enrollment forms at the police department lobby located in the West Carrollton Civic Center, 300 E. Central Ave. or download the form from the city’s website at www.westcarrollton.org. Required information includes a physical description, a photo (which can also be taken at the police department), and up to five emergency contacts.

The database will be maintained by the police department secretary and will allow officers and dispatchers to make fast identifications of lost individuals and locate guardians.

The program is free to implement, according to Rick Barnhart, police chief. "I believe this is another way to provide the best service possible to West Carrollton residents."

In addition to providing peace of mind for caregivers, Barnhart said the program may result in cost savings for the police department when officers and dispatchers are able to return those registered quickly.
